On Money & Creation

Aktualisiert: 31. Juli 2019

It was the first time ever that Meeting of Styles Germany welcomed graffiti artists from the Lebanon: Eps, Exist, Kabrit and Spaz, who teamed up with Anoy from Switzerland and Absurd vom France. What is so special about it? Graffiti is not such a cherished thing in the Arabic world as it is in Germany or America. And if you say graffiti is booming in the Lebanon than this is because of around 20 graffiti artists in the whole country! We have the pleasure to meet four of them.

The Lebanon - Switzerland - France Crew at work.
And what is it to be a good citizen? ... It is to create the useful and the beautiful with your own hands, and to admire what others have created in love and with faith.
(Khalil Gibran, I Believe in You - to the Americans of Lebanese Origin - in: Short Works, taken from: www.newthoughtlibrary.com )

Let's listen to what KABRIT (= Matchstick) has to say about Graffiti in the Lebanon:

So, Graffiti is progressing in the Lebanon! And what about money? Money is a topic that every graffiti artist has to confront. Will I take paychecks for my work? If yes, how do I get paid jobs? One thing is for sure: It takes time until a graffiti artist reaches a certain state of fame - and then he/ she could be hired all around the world. Maybe not so much in the Lebanon - where the crew is just happy to have a silent agreement with the governement: Go on coloring our grey walls! For now we don't care and we won't sanction you... It could be that we are even beginning to like it.

Paper money made by Eps to support a dance show of his girl friend.

And if there come the singers and the dancers and the flute players, - buy of their gifts also.
For they too are gatherers of fruit and frankincense, and that which they bring, though fashioned of dreams, is raiment and food for your soul.
(Khalil Gibran, On Buying & Selling, from The Prophet)

Let's meet EPS, the creator of countless apes on murals, raiments and foods for our all soul's:

It is in exchanging the gifts of the earth that you shall find abundance and be satisfied.
(Khalil Gibran, On Buying & Selling, from The Prophet)

Surely, although a graffiti artist, as any artist, can be very well paid on projects, money alone couldn't be the drive of these passionate people. To keep walking on the long road of mastering the craft there must be a stronger force behind it. It might be CREATION. Being able to create new worlds. On paper, on monitors, on walls.

What SPAZ wants to create is character. Find out more about it here:

Everyone has his/ her own spasm! Let us spaz out together. Let us take everyone along - or as Khalil Gibran says:

And before you leave the marketplace, see that no one has gone his way with empty hands.
For the master spirit of the earth shall not sleep peacefully upon the wind till the needs of the least of you are satisfied.
(On Buying & Selling, from The Prophet)
